October 30th Mid-Afternoon Tag: Wind Dancer Open "What a fucking dump." The words were a stark contrast to the actual place that was in question. The majority of people in the world would never find the spectacular splendor of the Xavier Estate's caliber as 'a dump'. In fact it was as far opposite of a dump as one could come up with. Yet the words stuck from poison spewing lips.
A parade of pine needles danced across the edge of the cement fountain, a unknown tune driving them on. Fingers moved easily and swiftly in the midst of the moving plant specimens. Green energy flared around the needles and flesh, the tell tale sign of a mutant power. Ever since puberty and the power emergence had hit, Julian never once hid his gift. Hiding was for the weak and the less powerful. The easily swayed and controlled. Those with true power never hid it. That didn't mean to revel within it and let it cloud judgment. It was an odd striking of the perfect balance. The perfect balance that defined the young Keller. A poise and dedication that oozed from the pores of Keller men and women. They were a strong breed, and Julian was no exception.
"You'd think this dump would have activities to keep those higher than such trivial mind sets occupied." Intellectuals must embrace the cold ways of the school. While those searching for a good time were shit out of luck. The needles died away as a deep sigh emerged. "What a waste of my time. Is there not any to provide a worthy distraction?"

Serena was cheerily bopping around the grounds, ear buds planted firmly in her ears as she danced away to whatever music was pouring from her iPod. Sure, she got some funny looks, but Serena wasn't really one to worry much about what everyone else thought. She'd always done her own thing, and today was no exception.
Her goofy little dance took her past the fountain where Julian sat, and she stopped and did a double take at the pine needles dancing to their own tune. Grinning, she pulled the ear buds from her ears and clicked the iPod off, then plopped unceremoniously on the edge of the fountain across from Julian.
"Hi!" She chirped out the greeting as she watched the foliage dance with a smile. "I don't think we've met yet, are you new here? I'm Serena. That's a pretty cool trick, you must be one of those tele-thingies. I'm a metamorph."
She volunteered this information easily, seeing no reason to hide it from the handsome young man seated across from her. Looking up at him, Serena favored Julian with a friendly smile. "What's your name?"

The sun shone brightly along the Xavier estates cresting the canopy of trees with a halo of golden light. Beneath one of the trees a familiar Venezuelan girl lay along the grass back to the ground with little white ear buds of her iPod set in her ear as her head softly bobbed to Orbital’s HALCYON. The soft hypnotic voice and rhythmic beat almost trance inducing; her lids closing half way. Her school books were sprawled at her side, opened but barely touched, she didn’t feel like studying...she was bored.
Three colourful paper air planes glided over head in a controlled dance, her fingers delicately guiding with graceful movements as she used her mutation to create a gentle breeze to control the paper planes. They danced above her as she hummed the tune playing in her ear. She rolled to her side feeling a little sedentary and decided perhaps it was time to get cracking on yet another stupid differential equation. Like English literature, Calculus was the bane of her existence they could have both been written in Greek for all she knew and technically one kinda was in some parts...all the more reason to hate it.
As she rolled onto her side, planes still dancing about her head, something at her periphery caught her attention, or rather someone. A boy sitting by the fountain making what looked like pine needles dance. The unimpressed look on his face was a tell tale sign he was bored. With a mischievous grin Sofia snatched one of the floating paper planes that glided on the wind currents she controlled. On the paper she wrote just simply:
Why So Serious?...Smile.
She added a smiley face for effect then folded the paper plane back up and sailed it towards the boy and made it land gently beside him.
The paper plane landed sliding across the ledge of the stone fountain to stop next to the boy when the tip of its nose struck his thigh. Sofia chuckled as she made the other two planes she controlled land on the ground beside her. She was about to pack up her books and walk over to officially say hi to the new boy only Serena approached him and started talking to him. Not being close enough to be privy to their conversation, and believing the boy to have been waiting for Serena Sofia decided to leave well enough alone, besides Sofia was not the kind of person to just insinuate herself into a group. The boy would have reason enough to smile now. Serena was an endless bundle of joy one couldn’t help but smile around her.
~It was probably a sign~ Sofia thought to herself, ~I should be concentrating on school work and not talking to cute boys.~ Sighing wistfully she started the arduous task of finding the solution to the differential equation:
2 y ' = sin(2x)
“Okay so that means Y prime is equal to half of sine two ex...” she muttered to herslef as she wrote on her notebook starting the path to solving the problem only a mental whimper entered her mind; she hated math. ~I’d rather be talking to cute boys...~ she thought to herself as she looked back over to the cute boy then shook her head as if to clear her mind and focus herself as she begrudgingly started back to work writing the next step to solving the mathematical problem.
~I really hate math.~.

As the mind wandered to how quickly the school could be disassembled by mind, the sickeningly sweet voice of a perky girl rained out. There was nothing worse than an over energized ADD infected girl scout. Apparently it was his unlucky day in that regard. Cold blue eyes rose up to stare at the girl in disgust. And she talked too much as well. Just another reason to tear her apart. After all she was just begging for it.
"Of course we haven't met, the day I hang out with a god awful perky cheerleader is the day I slit my wrists and paint the fucking Mona Lisa with my blood. And my name is hardly any business of such a plebeian as your self. If you don't know me by sight you're hardly the type I would ever dare even cast a glace at. Congratulations you've managed to irritate and depress me at the same time. Make sure to collect a gold star on the way out."
The small paper place skidded to a stop by his leg, eyes casting about for the culprit. No doubt one of the obnoxious youths decided it was fun to throw such and item about. A quick unfolding and glance brought the message to eyes. Eyebrows rose as eyes finally found the girl across the way with planes circling her head. Catching her eye he was momentarily stunned at the delectable beauty that waited there. Clearly she was talented as he was with her powers. Much more interesting than the ADD barbie beside him. Though he would never let on about that or tell her of course. The game was no fun that way.
The message upon the paper was scratched out and replaced by a another, before the telekinetic lifted it into the sky and sent it sailing back to land by the girl. Once she opened the paper she would find the following message: I'd Smile if you were naked in my bed .Smiling he turned back to find the smile fading as Serena was still there. "Are you still here? Good god do they raise them dumb around here."

For a moment, Julian achieved the impossible. He shocked Serena into silence. She was silent as he scribbled his note to Sofia and sent it back on it's way. When he turned his attention back to Serena he said, "Are you still here? Good god do they raise them dumb around here."
At that moment, Serena popped to her feet and commented, "Smarter than you think. It must be awfully hard to be you, sitting here so much better than everyone else, absolutely nothing to do. But take a good look around at all these people you're 'above' talking to. They're actually having a good time! I think I'd rather be a 'perky cheerleader plebeian' than someone like you."
Turning her back on him, Serena started to stick her headphones back in her ears when something else occurred to her. "You know, I saw what you wrote on that note Sofia sent over here. Let me tell you something, 'Mr. Wonderful'. You may be God's gift to this planet, but that girl over there - and pretty much every other girl on this campus - is WAY out of your league."
With that, Serena sashayed across the lawn and plopped down in front of Sofia. "Hey girl, sorry to interrupt your homework and all, but you gotta watch out for that guy over there." Serena pointed at Julian and proceeded to tell Sofia word-for-word their entire conversation. "I think he's a real jerk. It would be nice if someone took him down a peg or two."

A small smile creased Sofia’s lips as her plane found its way back to her compliments of the cute boy on the other end of the courtyard. She favoured him with a smile as she took the paper plane and read the note scribed onto it.
I'd Smile if you were naked in my bed
The joke was crass and in poor taste, a shame because in Sofia’s eyes he seemed somehow remarkable, yet his typical teenaged hormonal response was unoriginal and disappointing. Her smile slowly faded as she looked at the boy across the way and simply crumpled the paper plane with disinterest then continued on her homework for a moment until she thought better of it and opened up the crumpled paper to respond by scratching out his words and then writing something else. As she wrote she questioned why she was even responding, she should just ignore him but something compelled her to reply and replay she did by writing:
How disappointing. I thought you were different. Lame lines only work on drunk girls in clubs....Good hunting.
The plane was sent sailing back to him only at a swifter speed and struck him harder this time. Sofia didn’t even bother to look at him any longer. She continued on her homework expecting the boy to move on to other more willing ‘prey’ when Fey suddenly joined her.
“Oh hey Serena...what’s wrong?” Sofia asked picking up the angry vibe from the girl. So Sofia offered Serena a seat as she moved her text book out of the way. Then Serena pointed at Julian and proceeded to tell Sofia word-for-word their entire conversation. "I think he's a real jerk. It would be nice if someone took him down a peg or two."
Sofia frowned as the tale was recounted and at the end of Serena’s tale, Sofia favoured the girl with an understanding smile. “Indeed it would seem the answer no? But I’m afraid that would be playing into his hands.” Sofia reasoned and truth be told she didn’t have the heart to be cruel to another person no matter how deserving it may be.
“I know people like him...the people my father surrounds himself with people like that and their children are no different.” She frowned momentarily at that notion in some ways the boy was much like her father; arrogant, sharp wit and an acidic tongue. “Spoiled and entitled, the world holds very little joy for them so they revel in tearing others down. You can’t win against them if your goal is to try to tear them down they have practice and will beat you with experience.” She tried to reason with the girl. “The best thing Serena is to just ignore them because then they become what they fear the most...they become nothing.”
“I am sorry he hurt you, and getting even would seem like the solution, but it isn’t. Trust me. Just forget about him.” Sofia smiled reassuringly. “He’s not worth anymore of our time.” Hoping to change the girl's mindset knowing Serena was quite traumatized by the other boy Sofia fished into her bag and held out three different coloured suckers. "Pick one ... red, yellow or green." she smiled trying to cheer the girl up; sugar always made things seem better to most people.

Laughter burst out as Serena went off on him. Not a word was retorted to the girl as she was digging herself a nice hole all on her own. Helping her do such a thing was no fun at all. It just was tacky and led to disappointment. Watching a person dig themselves in deep was way more fun. It caused more lasting enjoyment later on when one looked back upon it. That would be the case with the small girl's outburst. She had a good pair of lungs to carry on, but every word from her mouth was pure stupidity. They clearly had lessened the intelligence standards since he entered the school. Then again no school could hope to capture lightning twice. Reeling in a catch like himself had been hard enough upon the Headmasters.
The girl was gone, and his laughter still came out in small bursts. The sharp pain of a paper tip jabbing into the head could be felt as the plane returned. Eyebrows rose as it was opened. The message within was quite amusing. Clearly the Latin, or whatever the heck she was, girl had some spunk and fisteyness to her. Just like he liked them. Clearly she would require further study. As they said there was no time like the present really. An added perk was annoying the small bubbly one some more.
Powerful strides took the youthful body across the grounds to lean against a tree over the two girls. "Ladies, ladies, no need to stand for my presence. I hope the little one here isn't bending your ear negatively about me hot stuff. Clearly a beauty like yourself would have an open mind and make judgments upon others all on her own."

"No, no, I wasn't thinking of revenge, Sofia. I was just thinking it would be nice if someone knocked him off his high horse and brought him down to Earth. He'd be kinda cute, if he wasn't such a jerk!" Serena smiled to show that she wasn't angry, just a little confused at his attitude. Though she was well-liked here on campus, cruel words had been thrown her way often in her home town, it wasn't a new experience for her at all. It just seemed strange to her that the boy would deliberately choose to be unhappy.
Then Sofia offered her a lollipop and the last of her irritation vanished into a bright smile. Ooh! Red please!" Serena popped the sweet treat into her mouth and said, "Fank ooo" around it.
Just as her cheer was returning, Julian decided to walk over to flirt some more with Sofia. Rolling her eyes at his comment Serena popped the candy out of her mouth and replied, "Speaking of judgment, maybe you should get to know a person before deciding she's a dumb cheerleader. Choosing to be happy and friendly does not make someone dumb."
Serena then popped the candy back into her mouth and leaned back on her elbows to see how Sofia would react to the big jerk.

“ Ooh! Red please!" Sofia watched as Serena popped the sweet treat into her mouth and said, "Fank ooo" around it.
The Venezuelan girl laughed and took the yellow one for herself setting the green one down. “De nada.” She answered with an easy smile glad that the girl’s spirits were starting to lift. From the periphery of her vision Sofia spotted movement from the fountain, it seemed the boy was moving on...or not.
Powerful strides took the handsome boy across the grounds to lean against a tree over them. "Ladies, ladies, no need to stand for my presence. I hope the little one here isn't bending your ear negatively about me hot stuff. Clearly a beauty like yourself would have an open mind and make judgments upon others all on her own."
~Hot Stuff? Completely uninventive.~ Sofia thought with a smirk ~He must think I have the mental capacity of a five year old if he thinks that’s going to rile me~. She continued to work on her mathematical problem not even giving the boy a glance. Sofia had kept her attention on her books the entire time when he approached not even bothering to acknowledge his presence hoping Serena would catch on but apparently not as the girl took the sucker out of her mouth and started to speak. "Speaking of judgment, maybe you should get to know a person before deciding she's a dumb cheerleader. Choosing to be happy and friendly does not make someone dumb." Serena had said and Sofia closed her eyes momentarily as the girl had obviously not heeded her suggestion about ignoring the boy, she potentially opened herself up again for the guy.
So despite her better judgement because on any other day Sofia would have just ignored the guy, she broke her self-induced silence if only to make herself the target of the boy’s ridicule instead of Serena.
“I made up my own mind about you within the first ten seconds of reading your note. Congratulations you’ve managed to ruin a perfectly good moment. You can collect your gold star on the way out. Here take a sucker too.” Sofia said as she threw back to him his own words and tossed the boy the green sucker with barely a glance his way then continued to work on her math homework.
~Oh Sofia this would be a dangerous game you don’t want to play.~

“Please stay out of conversations that are between adults, okay sweetie.” Rolling eyes greeted the young woman as Julian moved in front of her to stand between her and Sofia. The blond one was of no interest to him whatsoever. She was hot sure, but mouthy. And not the good fierce mouthy. The annoying child like mouthy that made a person want to tape your mouth shut. Now there was an idea. Too bad no tape was around. There was telekinetic power but then it might make the hot girl leave. Oh the tragedy of being him.
“Now where were we sweet thing.” She was playing hard to get. Concentrating on homework or pretending to at least. He knew the truth. She was so into him that she just couldn’t bear to show it. It seemed that the blond one speaking up at least opened up the conversation circuit. Perhaps she had her uses after all. Limited that they were.
Even feistier than determined before. Just his style. She had to be into him. No matter how much she denied it. Women claimed they didn’t like the super confident ‘bad’ boy. But they did. They loved that type. It was in their genes. “Now I really don’t believe that. You may think you made up your mind, but you know the truth. You just hide it.” Catching the sucker, a smile grew. “Hmm if you wanted a sucker baby you just had to ask.”

Serena's eyes narrowed as he stepped between her and Sofia, effectively putting his ass in her face. Sure, it was a nice ass, but she didn't want it in her face. For a moment her face flushed red in fury as she clenched her fists to keep from socking him a good one. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. She counted mentally to keep a lid on her temper.
Taking a deep cleansing breath, Serena chose a new tactic. She morphed into a common house cat and calmly wound her way between Julian's legs and over to Sofia. Draping herself across the other girl's lap, Serena began to purr. Loudly.

“Now I really don’t believe that. You may think you made up your mind, but you know the truth. You just hide it.” Catching the sucker, a smile grew on the boy's lips. “Hmm if you wanted a sucker baby you just had to ask.”
Sofia didn’t bother to answer him at first, forcing herself to concentrate on her math problem instead. ~Damn him and his hotness.~ she thought distractedly as she roughly erased a mistake in her math answer. Her peripheral vision caught Serena in house cat form slink between the cute boy’s legs and place herself on Sofia’s lap. ~Well so much for ignoring him while I do my math homework.~ Sofia thought the herself as she instinctively started stroking the cat.
“You’re still here?” Sofia asked looking up from at the boy from where she sat. “And That’s what you came here to me with? Cheap one liners? ‘If you wanted a sucker baby you just had to ask?’” she said mimicking his tone and swagger before bursting out in laughter. “Do you really pick up with lines like that? I’d say in your dreams but even the dream version of me would reject you just on principle.”
He was exactly the kind of guy her mother and every other mother would be warning their daughters about but Sofia’s Achilles heel?...Hot bad boy types. ~Internal sigh. Sometimes it just sucked to be a prisoner of your own fallacies.~
“Look, if you want a conversation, you’ll have to do better than that.“ her voice took on a more serious note with the slightest hint of annoyance; annoyance mostly directed at herself because she knew better, she knew she shouldn’t even be entertaining the notion of talking to the likes of him. But regardless of how cute the boy was, there was a certain amount of respect the Venezuelan girl required and if he couldn’t pull through then that would be the end of it. For all that was said and done, Sofia was still a Barrett and that part demanded respect.
“I’m worth a lot more than just some cheap lame one-liners and I don’t have the time or the inclination to suffer through anymore of it, so you either cut the whole ‘Night at the Roxbury / Butabi Brother’ act or you scamper off to hunt tramp somewhere else because I’m not THAT kind of girl.”
“So let’s not waste anymore of each other’s time hmmm?” Sofia said frankly in a no-nonsense kind of way that brooked no arguement as she waited on an answer.
